About The Work & Travel program

Summer Work and Travel USA  program is a cultural exchange program exclusively for undergraduate university students. The program has been approved and supported by the American government and it enables students to work in the USA during the summer break within a period of 10 weeks, and after that, if they want, to use 30 days extra for travelling and exploring America. The aim of the program is to gain great experience, improve English language, meet the culture, customs and lifestyle, as well as, to make new friends.

Eligibility criteria

To apply for the Summer Work Travel (SWT) program, applicants must:

  • Be Egyptian citizens and be at least 18 years old.
     
  • Be currently enrolled and in good standing in an Egyptian university or universities outside Egypt.
     
  • Have sufficient English language skills to be safe and comfortable travelling alone in the United States, to actively engage with the local U.S. community, and to function in an English-speaking work environment.
     
  • Engage with U.S. culture and communities and make adjustments to cultural and social practices different from those of their home country.
     
  • Commit to returning to Egypt to complete their degree.
     
  • Demonstrate strong leadership attributes. Applicants who create a resume (CV) that highlights their skills and experience, including volunteering experience enhances their chance of getting selected.

Required documents to apply

  • Valid Passport & ID: Applicants must have a valid passport and National ID with at least 6 months before its expiry date.
  • English Proof of Enrollment: A stamped official proof of enrollment from your university (Shehadet Ked).
  • English Proficiency Test Certificate: All participants must pass and meet at least an intermediate level in our English assessment test and interview. (Valid TOEFL and IELTS can be provided)
  • ExEgypt Student Agreement:  Each applicant must sign the contract which documents and secure both the applicants and the agency rights. 
  • Fee disclosure form: An official form describing the program fees and what it covers.
  • Letters of Recommendation (optional) 

English Proficiency Test

This is a mini test that contains 15 standardised intermediate to advanced level questions (MCQ) that include levels C1, B2 and B1. The questions are a variety of different styles such as grammar style questions, choose the correct word/sentence and fill in the gaps!

This helps us and your employer to see your English level for your job.
It’s necessary to be able to communicate clearly with your employer/supervisor and this helps us ensure that you have the ability to do so.

The test duration is 10 minutes. If you get the passing grade, you will be moved to the next step which is the English Interview. All interviews will be held at our office.

How does the program work


You will be welcomed as a visitor with a U.S. Department of State J-1 visa. This visa allows you to live and work in the United States for up to 10 weeks during your university summer vacation. It also gives you the possibility to travel for an additional 30 days after your job ends.
Visitors with J-1 visas require a sponsor. We will be responsible for making sure you are prepared to live in America, have access to a good placement with a responsible employer, and have a meaningful cultural exchange experience. We also monitor your health, safety and well-being while you are in the states by sending scheduled surveys.
